The proposal sets out a building of 96 affordable housing units in Almería, conceived from a clear idea: to reconcile residential density with the everyday quality of the homes and their shared spaces.

The project is positioned in strict alignment with the plot boundaries, creating a continuous urban frontage towards the Airport Highway. At ground-floor level, the building opens through a pedestrian passage that connects its two main façades and offers a visual link to the park on the opposite side. This permeability turns the plinth into an active base, where commercial units, entrances and the shared courtyard participate in the same relationship with the street.

The entrance courtyard is understood as the heart of the scheme. It is not merely a distribution space, but a place of arrival, encounter and transition between the city and the domestic realm. From here, residents access the vertical cores and the galleries on each floor, conceived as spaces for everyday interaction beyond their purely circulatory function.

The organisation of the building also responds to the natural slope of the site. The ground floor is divided into different stepped sections, adapting to the gradient and resolving universal access from both frontages. This strategy qualifies the plinth, optimises the basement car park and anchors the building to its immediate urban context.

All dwellings have dual orientation, supporting cross ventilation, natural light and improved passive thermal performance. The terrace-utility spaces extend domestic life outdoors and add depth to the façade, creating a recognisable, calm image connected to Almería’s climate. Largo Oriol proposes a compact, efficient and community-oriented model of affordable housing, where technical precision is placed at the service of a more generous, shared and context-aware way of living.
